New Directions in
Differential Geometry

The Department of Mathematics of The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, invites the mathematical community to this year's Barrett Lecture series.
The main speakers are:

S-Y. Alice Chang (UCLA/Princeton)
Higher order elliptic equations
in conformal geometry

Tobias Colding (Courant Institute)
Embedded minimal surfaces in 3-manifolds

Karsten Grove (Maryland)
Geometry of and via symmetries

Jon Wolfson (Michigan State)
Lagrangian cycles and volume

The speakers will give three one-hour
survey lectures each.

 PROGRAM 
Financial support for the lectures is provided by the
Tennessee Science Alliance and NSF. A limited amount of funding is available to support 
participation by graduate
students and postdoctoral level researchers
