Chapter 7 Ideals

Ideals were introduced to the theory of rings in order to develop a more general theory of factorization. In some cases of non-unique factorization, mathematicians discovered factorization if certain “ideal elements” were allowed. The concept was generalized as the theory of rings developed, and now ideals are a central concept in the theory of rings.
